Current Reading

As part of my education as a coach I am continuously reading. I'm currently reading a book called Beyond Winning by Gary M. Walton. It is a look at "philosopher coaches" and contains chapters focused on different coaches and their thoughts on their respective sports, team work, work ethic, and the very nature of success. I'm currently on the chapter about John Wooden. I'm attracted to Wooden's philosophy due to its simplicity and its applicability to every aspect of life. I am particularly interested in Wooden's definition of success.

"Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best you are capable of becoming."

This definition rings true due to its attention to individualism and its realization that the preparation for success is as important, if not more, than the final result.
